| Do Not Despise Small Beginnings |
Oftentimes a blank slate is viewed as a pit of hopeless defeat, when in fact it can lead to the greatest level of self discovery.
As an Author of a few books I could never fully imagine what the end result of what any of my books would or could be. I just knew I had to write. Once I started it was as though all of the information I never new existed would flow from me in such a force that my fingers could not write or type fast enough.
The hardest part about getting started with a new project, book, business, etc. is the beginning stages of the execution process. Brainstorming can be fairly easy, but organizing your thoughts in such a way that those not in your head may understand takes self motivation. Below are a few tips to help you get started.
Time
Don't overwhelm yourself. Take your time. If there is a time crunch or a deadline put yourself on a schedule. Even if it is 30 minutes a day of nonstop, distraction free writing or planning, make use of the time.
Read
Reading stimulates thought. No matter the project you need to complete, if you are stumped, read. If your time is limited, invest in audiobooks. You can listen while multitasking; Driving, cooking, showering, etc.
Outline
Create an outline of your duties/ project tasks. This will give you a clear idea of the time it may take to complete your mission.
Record
Carry a tape recorder with you. When you are inspired simply record your thoughts/ ideas and organize them at a later time.
Deadline
Push yourself to complete what you plan to start. Breakdown your work load based on the number of days/months that you have available until your finish date. Finish at least one page of work and time yourself. This will help determine how much time is needed per day to meet your deadline.
Reinforcement
Once you get to a self designated point reward yourself. This will give you something to look forward to and serve as a marker for your timeline. Don't cheat yourself, actually do the work, but DO treat yourself to something you want but would not have regularly. My personal reward would be a cupcake, because the way my metabolism is set up too many trips to my favorite bakery will ruin my plans for summertime-fine abs!
Dont beat yourself up for not starting something that should of been completed already (I have to remind myself of this often), that won't change anything. Just start where you are and try to keep the momentum. Create an environment for yourself that is conducive to your productivity. Even if it means doing your work on the beach or local cafe or even in your bathroom, that act of self care can make all the difference.
