“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and the rivers in the dessert” - Isaiah 43:19
There are seasons in life when everything feels barren; prayers seem delayed, doors remain closed, and yesterday’s disappointments slowly fade into hopelessness. Yet in this powerful promise in the book of Isaiah, God interrupts despair with a declaration: I am doing a new thing.
Notice the wording. Not “I will do” — but “I am doing.” Even when we cannot see it, heaven is already at work. Growth often begins beneath the soil, long before green shoots break through the surface. Just because you don’t see movement doesn’t mean there isn’t momentum.
“Now it springs up.” New beginnings are not always loud. Sometimes they emerge quietly via a shift in your mindset, a renewed sense of peace, an unexpected opportunity, a conversation that changes direction. The question God asks is not whether He is working, but whether we perceive it.
Perception requires faith. It requires releasing attachment to the old season so you can recognize the new one. Sometimes we miss what God is birthing because we are still grieving what He ended.
What if the closed door was closed for a greater one?
What if the delay was preparation?
What if the wilderness is where rivers are about to flow?
Today, ask God to sharpen your discernment. Ask Him to help you see beyond circumstances and into promise. The “new thing” may not look like what you expected, but it will carry His signature: peace, purpose, and provision.
In Matthew 16 the Pharisees and the Sadducees asked Jesus for a sign from Heaven. Jesus responded: “When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red. And in the morning, It will be foul weather today: for the sky is red and lowering. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?” Matthew 16:2,3.
A close and consistent walk with Christ should result in an increase of discernment. He wants us to be able to perceive the seasons we are in. Don’t beat yourself up for not being where you could have been. Today is a new day and on this day you are free to change the course of your life and start fresh.
Prayer to usher in this new perspective:
Lord, open my eyes to perceive what You are doing. Help me release the past and trust You in this unfolding season. Give me faith to recognize the new thing as it springs up, and courage to walk into it. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Step forward with expectancy. Something is already growing.
